Get the Android app
WayPoint is in early access, so the app installs directly from us instead of the Play Store. It takes about two minutes, it's completely reversible, and your phone will double-check with you at every step.
Download WayPoint waypoint.apk · 61 MB · updated July 25, 2026- Download the app — tap the button above on your phone. If your browser warns that this type of file can harm your device, choose Download anyway — that's Android's standard caution for any app that doesn't come from the Play Store.
- Open the downloaded file — pull down your notifications and tap waypoint.apk, or find it in your files app (My Files → Downloads on Samsung, Files → Downloads on Pixel).
- Allow the install (first time only) — your phone will say your browser "isn't allowed to install unknown apps." Tap Settings, switch on Allow from this source, then go back. Both Samsung and Pixel use this same flow; you'll never be asked again.
- If Google Play Protect pipes up — it may say the app is from an unknown developer. Tap More details, then Install anyway. Expected while we're in early access; the app will come to the Play Store later.
- Install → Open — then create your free account (or sign in) and you're on the map.
On Samsung (One UI)
The unknown-apps switch lives at Settings → Security & privacy → Install unknown apps if you ever want to find it later — the install flow takes you straight there when needed.
On Google Pixel
Same idea: Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps. Again, the install prompt jumps you there automatically the first time.
Good to know: works on Android 8.0 and newer. To update the app later, come back to this page and install the new version right over the old one — nothing is lost. Uninstalling works like any other app.
After installing: sign in, pick your trip, and (if you like) flip on Vacation Mode so new photos upload themselves while you travel.
